Add Dropbox as Backup Location
Overview
This feature (available since Softaculous 4.9.4) lets you store your Softaculous backups (WordPress, Joomla, etc.) directly in your Dropbox account instead of local server space.
It uses a simple authorization process—no need to create your own Dropbox app.
Prerequisites
- Softaculous version 4.9.4 or higher.
- A Dropbox account with enough free storage space.
- Access to your Softaculous Enduser panel (usually in cPanel → Softaculous).
Step-by-Step: Add Dropbox Backup Location
1. Log into your control panel and open Softaculous Enduser area.
2. Go to Edit Settings → Click Add Backup Location.
3. In the form:
- Select Protocol: Dropbox
- Enter a Backup Name (e.g. "My Dropbox Backups")
4. Click the Authorize button. You'll be redirected to Dropbox.
5. Log in to your Dropbox account if prompted.
6. Allow access when asked to permit the "Softaculous Auto Installer APP" (click Allow).
7. Dropbox will show an authorization code. Copy it.
8. Go back to the Softaculous form and paste the code into the Auth Code field.
9. (Optional) In Backup Location, enter a subfolder path like /wordpress or /mybackups. Leave blank to use the default Softaculous folder in Dropbox.
10. Click Add Backup Location to save.
Next Steps: Use Dropbox for Backups
After adding:
- Select this Dropbox location when creating manual backups.
- Set it as default in Edit Settings, or choose it per installation in Advanced Options (for automated backups if enabled).
Backups will now upload to your Dropbox automatically when triggered.
Quick Tips
- Make sure your Dropbox has enough space—backups can get large!
- You can add multiple locations and switch between them.
- If authorization fails, double-check login details or try again.
- This works with both manual and automated backups.
